Tuningi Safari Lodge | Madikwe Game Reserve

rt-image
Tuningi Safari Lodge is set within a peaceful kloof in the south-western region of Madikwe Game Reserve. This magnificent five-star Lodge welcomes children of all ages and can sleep up to 16 people in four beautifully-appointed deluxe suites and two spacious family suites.

Each exquisite thatched suite is placed to ensure you enjoy utter seclusion and boasts a comfortable chill area, full bathroom, outdoor rock shower, and wraparound timber platform from where you can drink in the panoramic vistas of the surrounding wilderness paradise. The retractable windows and doors further serve to enhance the feeling of being at one with nature.

Extra amenities include air conditioning, ceiling fans, gas fireplaces as well as a safe, bar fridge, coffee/tea making station, percale linen, mosquito nets, robes, slippers, a hairdryer, umbrella, and animal identification guide.

The family units provide all the same facilities found in the standard double suites and comprise two double bedrooms joined by a central sitting room, dining area, and kitchenette.

The main visitor hub is connected to the suites by timber walkways and is decorated in the same classic Afro-chic décor style. Here you’ll find welcoming indoor and outdoor lounges, an elegant dining room, TV/library room with internet access, and a fully- stocked bar and wine cellar. Tuningi’s main visitor hub opens onto a sweeping timber deck from where you can observe the resident bird- and wildlife that frequent the nearby waterhole.

For a more relaxed perspective on the animal action, why not retreat to the inviting reclining chairs alongside the crystal-clear rim flow pool. Alternatively, follow the walkway that leads from the deck to the Boma positioned below an ancient giant Fig Tree; the ideal setting for fire-lit bush dinners under a sky full of stars. Otherwise, evening meals are served in the cosy dining area.

Wholesome brunches are served on the main platform while lunches are typically enjoyed under the sprawling Fig Tree, giving you an additional opportunity to indulge in some game viewing.

For visitors wanting to spend some time with their partner, a romantic al fresco dinner for two can be arranged by prior request. Families with children also have the choice of taking meals in the confines of their suite or tucking into a feast of local flavours in a separate Boma.

Every meal at Tuningi is treated as an occasion to celebrate life on safari and prepared from the freshest, most delicious ingredients – as per your specific dietary requirements – and made all the better by the selection of superb wines.

The Camp consists of a standard double suite coupled with a family unit plus a living area, dining room, gourmet kitchen, Boma, wraparound wooden deck, and swimming pool. While Little Tuningi is designed to provide complete privacy, visitors are of course welcome to access the main hub and its facilities.

Unsurprisingly, Tuningi Safari Lodge affords visitors ample chances to discover the mysteries of Madikwe Game Reserve, home to the Big 5 and an incredible diversity of African fauna and flora.

However, being a family-friendly Lodge, Tuningi has plenty to offer junior visitors. The fun and interactive children’s programme begins with apost-breakfast supervised “bumble” to one of the waterholes. Other activities include treasure hunts, drawing, clay modelling, puzzle building, swimming, T-shirt painting, cooking with the chef, tracing tracks, and recording animal movements.

The Lodge’s fabulous nannies are available throughout the day to keep a watchful eye on the little ones so that you can enjoy some time out with total peace of mind. Possibly even indulge in are vitalising massage or spa therapy in the of your suite or on your

platform; what better way to end another amazing day in this pristine bushveld.

Tuningi Safari Lodge also provides an idyllic setting for your wedding ceremony and is equipped to host parties of up to 40 visitors. From the open-air rehearsal dinner to the traditional exchanging of your nuptialvows atop a small “koppie” looking out towards the Waterberg mountains in the far north, Tuningi’s attention to detail and exceptional service will ensure your “bigday” is the very definition of heavenly.

Its superior accommodation, hospitable ambience, excellent cuisine, and unsurpassed game viewing are what make family-oriented Tuningi Safari Lodge such a sought-after destination for family and group wilderness breakaways.

Overlooking a Waterhole with Some of the Best Views in Madikwe

Tuningi Safari Lodge combines the wonders of the African bushveld with the splendors of five star luxury. The main entertainment and reception area of Tuningi Safari Lodge overlooks an active waterhole that provides fantastic game viewing from the safety of an expansive wooden deck. The rim flow pool and comfy loungers give the lodge a sumptuous and welcoming feel.

The décor at Tuningi Safari Lodge is African-chic, with the main thatched lodge comprising of a spacious lounge, a cosy dining room and a well-stocked bar and wine cellar. These spaces are interlinked by a sweeping wooden pool deck and walkway that leads to a boma under an ancient sprawling Fig Tree, from which Tuningi derives its name. This boma deck is perfect for outdoor dinners around a blazing log fire, where you can see and hear the wildlife just a few feet away.

Keen wildlife photographic enthusiasts will love the underground hide which overlooks the active waterhole. While sipping on a G&T in the hide guests can experience being on the same level as the wildlife. This hide experience is fantastic – especially when elephants walk right past the windows, offering a unique perspective of their size. Amazing images can be captured with a wide-angle lens, and even some creative low angle photos of animals such as giraffe, zebra, buffalo, kudu and impala drinking from the waterhole.

Keeping active while in the bush is a pleasure at Tuningi. The gym blends into the surrounding bush and guests have the opportunity of viewing wildlife while they build up a sweat. The gym is fitted with a treadmill, spinning bike and a cable cross weight trainer.

For guests who battle to divorce themselves from technology a satellite TV and Wi-Fi are provided in the main lounge to keep them connected to the “outside world”. The ideal way for guests to catch up on some quiet time would be to select a book from the library and settle down in the lounge or on one of the outside decks to read, which is often highlighted by some game passing by. Tuningi is family friendly through and through, and offers an endless array of activities to keep the kids entertained. What’s more, babysitting services are offered at an additional cost when the children are too young to go out on safari, or if parents feel their children are tired and need to sleep while they enjoy their dinner.

Bush Cuisine

A Veritable Extravaganza of Local Flavours
Every meal at Tuningi is the ultimate indulgence: varied, unique, beautifully presented and delicious. Meals are served in the cosy dining room or in the unique boma perfectly set under an old Fig Tree overlooking a very active waterhole.

After a morning of sensational game viewing, guests are treated to a hearty brunch consisting of fruits, eggs, cheeses, and cereals – all freshly prepared and scrumptious. Lunch too is enjoyed under the giant Fig Tree, where guests can relax and revel in the animals joining them at the waterhole – some amazing game viewing without even leaving the Lodge. As night sets in, lanterns and candles are lit and the mood goes from bush to baroque. Guests return from their game drive to be presented with a bush extravaganza dinner, prepared by Tuningi’s Executive Chef, in the boma with a blazing log fire to keep them warm.

The boma is a truly memorable way to experience an evening under the African night sky. This is the only meal you will share with the other guests in camp. Here you will indulge in fine cuisine and superb wines, from the extensive cellar, while sitting near a warm, crackling fire. This is the perfect opportunity to reminisce, share and discuss the day’s sightings and experiences. End off the evening with a sumptuous dessert and a nightcap before bidding farewell to the simmering fire to the calling of your suite.

The law in South Africa requires a foreign couple to attend an appointment at the Department of Home Affairs before they can be legally married in South Africa. Since this is quite a cumbersome task for someone on safari, we suggest that you process all legal marriage documents in your home country and enjoy your ceremony on safari in a more traditional way
